Open FIESTA

Open FIESTA（Open Faculty for Innovation, Education, Science, Technology and Art）is co-established by Tsinghua University and the Center for Research and Interdisciplinary in June 2015，located in SIGS campus. Open FIESTA aims to integrate the global innovation resources, collectively study, develop and share exponential technologies and disruptive paradigms to catalyze global innovation for sustainability, and nurture the students with creative spirit, entrepreneurial capability and strong social responsibility.

Vision

As well stated in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, the world is facing unprecedented fast-growing challenges, including multi-faceted economic, social, climatic and environmental crisis. 
To be able to train our next generation to be innovative problems solvers, it will thus require new programs where they can learn through research not only how to access the precious knowledge produced by their elders, but also to create new one. They should also learn meta-skills such as learning how to learn, to criticize constructively, synthetize or recombine ideas, to be creative, to collaborate with people that come different backgrounds and cultures for innovation.
Top universities of today have to evolve with redefined strategies to adapt to this   urgent need of higher education in the 21st century. 

Mission

Open FIESTA is to build a Global hub and a worldwide network to foster next generation research, education and innovation at Tsinghua University, which is dedicated to:

Center for Research and Interdisciplinary in Paris

• The inventor of open mentorship and evolvable pedagogy to support students to develop their own research and innovation projects;

• Three degree programs integrated Bettencourt curriculum, Paris-Descartes University, and Paris-Diderot University with interdisciplinary diploma and "white" diploma.

Tsinghua SIGS

As the sole branch campus of Tsinghua University, the Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS) serves as Tsinghua's scientific research and graduate education platform in southern China. It is committed to continuing Tsinghua's academic legacy and promoting scientific innovation. Launched on 29 March 2019, Tsinghua SIGS is a collaboration between Tsinghua University and the Shenzhen Municipal Government that builds on the strengths and experiences of the Graduate School at Shenzhen (GSST) and the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI). It aims to bring together world-class faculty and students, tackle global challenges through cutting edge research and international collaboration, and nurture the next generation of global leaders by creating an International, Borderless, and Entrepreneurial learning environment.

Academic Programs

Master's program in IID (Internet + Innovation Design) is on the frontier of interdisciplinary internet thinking and innovation, covering education, art, public management, environmental protection and finance. The program promotes comprehensive understanding and cutting-edge innovation in fields related to the internet and interdisciplinary design. As an innovative design research program oriented to the frontiers of information technology and interdisciplinary fields, the professional backgrounds of students from different fields of information technology, design art, humanities, and social sciences, and mechanical engineering, etc. are welcomed.

Program Highlights

• Program permits graduates to design their own courses of study with curriculum, internships and projects that span various disciplines.

• Each graduate is required to do at least two innovative practice projects which are interdisciplinary and academic innovation value. Each project period of about 6 months.

• Each graduate student will have an international mentor team composed of different backgrounds to help draw up a personalized curriculum and research project.

Training mode

The program implements a training mode that closely integrates cutting-edge research with innovative practice, and advisor responsibility system. The advisor direct students to make their individual training plan and complete their thesis. An interdisciplinary team of instructors from different disciplines directs students to complete their innovative practice projects, and improve their interdisciplinary collaborative innovation capabilities.

Master's program in BIO³ (Bio-Nano-Info) is on the frontier of interdisciplinary life science research covering the life sciences, nanoscience, technology, and information technology. This program implements the mentor system, under the supervision of interdisciplinary tutor team composed of teachers from different disciplines, the program is engaged in the study and research in the fields of cross life science, artificial intelligence assisted diagnosis and treatment, big data in healthcare and medical surgical robots.As an interdisciplinary and innovative development program, students of the professional background in biology, physics, mathematics, chemistry, medicine, biomedical engineering, materials science and engineering, electronic science and technology, etc. are welcomed.

Program Highlights

• Program permits graduates to design their own courses of study with curriculum, internships and projects that span various disciplines.

• Each graduate is required to do two rotations at various international innovation labs, workshops and cooperative platforms. Each rotation is at least 3 months long.

• Each graduate student will have an international mentor team composed of different backgrounds to help draw up a personalized curriculum and research project.

Training mode

The program implements advisor responsibility system. An interdisciplinary team of instructors from different disciplines directs students to engage in interdisciplinary life science, artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis, big data, medical robotics, etc. Training mainly include: boot-camp learning, curriculum learning and rotation project practice.

Registration& Degree

The program lasts for 2 to 3 years with the two options:

1. Studying at Tsinghua University for 2 to 3 years, students who complete the required credits and meet the Tsinghua University Master's degree requirements will be awarded a Master's degree.

2. Studying at Tsinghua University during the first academic year, followed by studying at CRI during the second year, and returning to Tsinghua University for the last year. Students who complete the required credits and meet the requirements for master's degrees both at Tsinghua University and Paris Fifth University will receive a double master's degree from the two universities. Students who only meet the Tsinghua University Master's degree requirements, can only be awarded a master's degree from Tsinghua University.

Qualification of Applicants

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport.
2. The applicant should have a bachelor's degree or have the equivalent educational background of a bachelor's degree.

Accommodation

Dormitory rooms will be automatically reserved for international students. Students do not need to apply on their own. Housing for admitted international students is coordinated by the University Town of Shenzhen (UTSZ).
